Bayern Munich picked up yet another trophy after defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 to claim the German Super Cup on Wednesday night.
Bayern made five changes for the clash, with Robert Lewandowski, Lucas Hernandez, Javi Martinez Niklas Sule and Kingsley Coman all recalled while Dortmund were without Jadon Sancho.
After a lively start, the hosts got the opener in the 18th minute from a counter-attack as Corintin Tolisso got to the end of a through ball from Alphonso Davies and bundled the ball over the goal-line from a rebound after his initial strike was saved by goalkeeper Marwin Hitz.
Thomas Muller doubled the lead for the Bavarians just after the half-hour mark with a downward header from close range after a deep cross by Alphonso Davies on the left flank.
Dortmund pulled a goal back six minutes before the break courtesy of a close-range strike into the top corner by Julian Brandt after he was setup by Erling Haaland.
Thomas Meunier missed a big chance for the visitors two minutes inside the second stanza but Haaland eventually levelled matters ten minutes from the break with a strike into the bottom corner after a through ball from Thomas Delaney.
Haaland had another glorious chance to put Lucien Favre's charges ahead on the hour-mark after beating the offside trap to go through on goal but his left-footed shot was saved by Bayern shot-stopper Manuel Neuer.
The tempo of the game slowed down in the closing phase, with numerous substitutions taking the sting out of the game but Joshua Kimmich restored the lead for Bayern in the last eight minutes with a poked effort from close range to seal the victory and the Super Cup title.
