FC Barcelona have reportedly joined the race to sign a €60 million-rated striker who has been outscoring Robert Lewandowski in the Bundesliga this season.
On Tuesday, Spanish publication Sport reported that Barca had joined the bidding war for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, who has been strongly linked with a move to either Liverpool or Chelsea in recent weeks.
The 23-year-old, who is the leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga this season after netting 20 times in 18 league appearances, is said to have emerged as Barca's prime candidate to replace the injured Luis Suarez, but the Spanish giants would need to fork out Leipzig's current asking price of €60 million (R964 million) to secure his services.
Werner had previously been backed to join Liverpool, where he would join up with compatriot Jurgen Klopp, but no agreement is in place between the former VfB Stuttgart star and the reigning European champions.
The Germany international has scored 83 goals in 206 Bundesliga appearances, and won the Golden Boot award in Die Mannschaft's 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup triumph in Russia.
