Bayer Leverkusen maintained their impressive start to the year after cruising to a 3-0 victory over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Sunday evening.

The highly-rated Kai Havertz opened the scoring for Leverkusen five minutes before the halftime.

Lars Bender doubled the lead in the 78th minute before Lucas Alario rounded off the scoring from the penalty spot in the 89th minute.

The victory sees Leverkusen move up to fifth spot, two points adrift of the top four while Fortuna remain rooted to the foot of the standings.

Hoffenheim got back to winning ways in the Bundesliga with a 3-0 beating of Werder Bremen on Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, an own goal from Davy Klaasen put Hoffenheim on their way in the 65th minute.

Christoph Baumgartner doubled the visitors' lead on 79 minutes before Sargis Adamyan sealed the victory in the final 10 minutes.
