Dortmund are now eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich, while Augsburg are looking perilously over their shoulder as they are just one place above the relegation zone but equal on points with Hertha Berlin one point behind them.
RB Leipzig further enhanced their top-four credentials with a hard-fought 1-0 win over VfL Bochum.
Leipzig continued their fine start to 2022 with their eighth victory in their last 10 matches after Christopher Nkunku's solitary goal in the 82nd minute.
It ends a fantastic week for Domenico Tedesco's side, who thrashed Hertha Berlin 6-1 before overcoming Real Sociedad to progress to the Round of 16 before this victory over Bochum.
