Philippe Coutinho bagged a goal and an assist as Bayern Munich defeated Paderborn 3-2 in a thrilling Bundesliga encounter on Saturday afternoon.
Despite having being involved in UEFA Champions League action this week, Bayern Niko Kovac went a strong line-up as top scorer Robert Lewandowski led the line once again.
Lewandowski, who was on nine league goals before the match, should have got himself on the score-sheet as early as the sixth minute, but the Polish striker missed a sitte from close range.
The Bavarians got the opening goal after 16 minutes as Coutinho's superb pass found Sergen Gnabry who found the back of the net with a calm finish.
The visitors could have increased their advantage at the break but Paderborn shot-stopper Hut produced a fine double save to deny Lewandowski and and Coutinho in quick succession.
The lead was doubled shortly after the break as Coutinho got his name on the score-sheet as Gnabry returned the favour for the Brazilian, who side-footed into the back of the net.
Paderborn pulled a goal back with 20 minutes remaining as Mohamed Drager took a neat touch before firing past Manuel Neuer to put his side back in the game.
However, Lewandowski restored Bayern's two-goal cushion 10 minutes later after latching onto a pass from Sule before lobbing the Paderborn shot-stopper.
The visitors did reduce the deficit once again on 86 minutes through Jamilu Collins' stunning strike, but the defending champions were able to hold on for three points.
