Result: Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 Bayer Leverkusen
Date: 18 October 2019
Venue: Commerzbank-Arena
Eintracht Frankfurt moved up to seventh spot in the Bundesliga after defeating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 at the Commerzbank-Arena.
Frankfurt were eager to get back to winning ways after drawing 2-2 with Werder Bremen on home soil, while Leverkusen drew 1-1 with RB Leipzig before the international break.
There was a bigger incentive for the visitors, who had the opportunity to move to the summit of the standings ahead of Saturday's encounters.
However, it was the home side got off to the perfect start when Gonçalo Paciência opened the scoring after just two minutes, after being set up by Danny da Costa for his fourth goal of the season.
The lead was doubled in the 16th minute after Frankfurt were awarded a penalty, which Paciencia converted to complete his brace on the night.
Leverkusen's woes were compounded 15 minutes before the halftime break when Mitchell Weiser was forced off with an injury and replaced by Karim Bellarabi for the latter stages of the first half.
The visitors were in control for most of the second half, although Frankfurt shot-stopper Frederik Ronnow was in fine form to deny the Leverkusen attackers.
Any hopes of a comeback were dashed with 10 minutes remaining when Bas Dost turned home a cross from Filip Kostic for his second goal of the season.
