Bayern Munich dropped points for the second successive Bundesliga clash after rescuing a 1-1 draw against Koln at the Allianz Arena.

Result: Bayern Munich 1-1 Koln

Date: 24 January 2023

Venue: Allianz Arena

Despite a disappointing 1-1 draw at RB Leipzig last Friday, the Bavarians named unchanged side from that clash as they looked to get their first win of the new year.

Koln had an ideal start four minutes from the start after Ellyes Skhiri charged in at the far post and turned home Julian Chabot.

The lead was soon under threat after Serge Gnabry worked a yard of space from a tight angle in the area and forced a good save out of Marvin Schwabe.

However, Koln came close to a second goal on the half-hour mark where a counter-attack saw Florian Kainz go down the left and cut the ball back for Denis Huseinbasic to tap-in but Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer rushed out to smother.

Bayern enjoyed the late momentum when Schwabe kept out a stinging shot from Benjamin Pavard, before Leon Goretzka nodded wide from the rebound.

Goretzka didn't come out for the second half and was replaced by Ryan Gravenberch, while Gnabry also made way for Kingsley Coman.

Koln, who made changes at the break too in Eric Martel and Dejan Ljubicic, desperately looked to maintain their lead and denied Gravenberch and Coman from levelling matters.

Substitute Thomas Muller nearly clawed the host level from a thumping header off Coman's cross around the last ten minutes, but Schwabe tipped the effort out for a corner.

The Bavarians clinched a point seconds from time after Joshua Kimmich picked up a ball from Dayot Upamecano and slammed in from outside the area.

This result denied the host the chance to go six points clear at the top of the league standings with second successive draw.
