Result: Bayer Leverkusen 1-2 Bayern Munich
Date: 19 December 2020
Venue: BayArena
Bayern Munich will end the year top of the Bundesliga table after Robert Lewandowski's brace secured a come-from-behind win over Bayer Leverkusen.
The hosts got off to a superb start after Patrik Schick opened the scoring on 14 minutes with a superb strike that left Manuel Neuer with no chance.
Bayern were presented with a big chance to level matters on 21 minutes when Alphonso Davies' cross found Lewandowski, who surprisingly dragged his effort wide of the mark.
Leverkusen had the ball in the back of the net seven minutes later through Schick's neat finish, but the attacker was flagged offside, with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) agreeing with the call.
With 10 minutes left in the half, Bayern manager Hans Flick was forced into an early change as Leroy Sane replaced the injured Kingsley Coman.
The equaliser eventually arrived two minutes before the break when the league's top scorer, Lewandowski, nodded home Thomas Muller's cross.
Leverkusen regrouped in the second half and nearly got themselves back in front on the hour mark but Neuer produced a good save to keep out Amiri's stinging effort.
Flick responded with a double change for the final 20 minutes, with Sane and Corentin Tolisso coming off for Jamal Musiala and the returning Joshua Kimmich.
The change nearly paid off as Musiala rattled the upright with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, with Lukáš Hrádecký well beaten.
With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Lewandowski popped up with the winning in the 93rd minute with a deflected effort past Hradecky to send Bayern top heading into the new year.
