Bayern Munich were denied the chance to move top of the Bundesliga after drawing 2-2 away to Augsburg on Saturday afternoon.
The champions did not get the start they wanted as Augsburg took the lead inside the first minutes thanks to a strike from Marco Ritcher, who opened his account for the season.
Bayern suffered another blow after 12 minutes when defender Niklas Sule was forced off after picking up an injury. He was replaced by David Alaba.
However, Bayern were rescued one by their talisman two minutes later once again after Lewandowski restored parity for the visitors.
Niko Kovac's men took control thereafter as the visitors went close to taking the lead on 33 minutes when Lewandowski turned provider to pick out Serge Gnabry, who fired over the crossbar from close range.
The woodwork came to Augsburg's rescue just before the halftime as Gnabry saw his header crashed against the post before Lewandowski fired over from the rebound.
Bayern eventually bagged the second goal four minutes after the break as Gnabry sent a fine curling finish into the bottom corner after being played in by Philippe Coutinho.
The visitors continued throwing bodies forward of more goals, but they were nearly silence in the 72nd minute at the other end but Manuel Neuer was on hand to deny Richter.
Lewandowski nearly secured his second goal with 10 minutes remaining after latching onto Kingsley Coman's pass, but Augsburg shot-stopper Koubek produced a superb save to deny the Bayern striker.
