Bayern Munich missed the chance to go seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after suffering a 2-1 loss to relegation-threatened Augsburg on Friday evening.

Result: Augsburg 2-1 Bayern Munich

Venue: WWK Arena

Serge Gnabry, Benjamin Pavard, Omar Richards and Marcel Sabitzer were all recalled to the Bayern line-up from the 2-1 win over Freiburg before the international break.

The Bavarians were imposing themselves on Augsburg in the opening exchanges but the hosts took a shock lead in the 21st minute after Mads Pedersen slammed home a shot at the back post from a flick-on by Andi Zeqiri.

Julian Nagelsmann's charges were creating chances but were caught on a counter-attack ten minutes before the half-time break after Andre Hahn guided a towering header past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after a cross by Iago.

However, Robert Lewandowski pulled a goal back for Bayern two minutes later with a close-range volley at the back post after a flicked header by Thomas Muller.

The Bavarians were keeping Augsburg in their own half coming from the half-time but Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka were guilty of missing clear-cut chances after defensive lapses by Markus Weinzierl's troops.

Nagelsmann made an attacking change 20 minutes before time, as Maxim Choupo-Moting replaced Leroy Sane before Alphonso Davies came close to equalising for Bavarians five minutes later with a strike across goal that flashed just wide.

With Bayern pressing forward, Lewandowski was denied the equaliser ten minutes before time by shot-stopper Rafal Gikiewicz after going through on goal while Davies missed an open net by a whisker over the bar on the rebound.

The same scenario presented itself for the Bavarians five minutes later after Gikiewicz saved Jamal Musiala's strike, who was through on goal and the rebound fell to Goretzka who missed the target from close range as Augsburg held on to move out of the relegation zone while Bayern remain four points clear at the top of the log.
