The German top flight returns on Friday night, when champions Bayern Munich host Schalke 04. The Bavarians enter the season as favourites once again, and will be keen to lift a ninth successive Bundesliga title.

Bayern have one of the strongest squads in Europe, and will be carefully watched after claiming the treble last season.

One player who stood out for Hansi Flick's side in the previous campaign is Alfonso Davies. The 19-year-old was not even a starter for Bayern at the beginning of last season but had an outstanding breakthrough campaign. It will be interesting to see if the speedy winger-turned-left-back will be able to continue to perform at the highest level on a weekly basis.

Borussia Dortmund are expected to be the Bavarians' closest rivals once more, and the Black and Yellows have one of the most exciting squads in Europe. Players such as Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho will likely set the league alight once again, but the club has also acquired the services of central midfielder Jude Bellingham in this window.

The 17-year-old joined BVB from Birmingham City, who retired his shirt number despite his young age. He is a tall midfielder with a lot of attacking intent, as was evident in Dortmund's DFB Pokal first-round clash against Duisburg when he scored his first official goal for the club.

Over at Bayer Leverkusen, Moussa Diaby will be entering his second Bundesliga campaign. He is one of the fastest players in the league, and if his first season in Germany is anything to go by, fans and neutrals are in for a spectacle. He joined the Bundesliga side from Paris Saint-Germain, and is expected to be one of the players to fill the void left by Leverkusen talisman Kai Havertz, who recently left the club to join Chelsea.
