Yanga Boss: The Difference Between Ahly Under Pitso And Now Is...

Young Africans' head coach has described the key difference between how Al Ahly played under Pitso Mosimane and how they play under their current boss.

This past weekend, the reigning Tanzanian domestic treble holders travelled to the Egyptian capital to take on the Club of Century to try to qualify as Group D winners in the CAF Champions League.

It was Yanga's fourth visit to the Cairo International Stadium to face the reigning competition champions, but they were unable to get their first-ever victory at the venue as a Hussein El Shahat goal subjected the east African giants to a 1-0 defeat and see them finish as group runners-up.

Young Africans head coach Miguel Gamondi made an interesting observation about Ahly, however, when he compared the record African champions under Mosimane to how they play now under the tutelage of Marcel Koller.

"The difference between Al Ahly when it faced it in 2020 and today is the attack under Mosimane's leadership was more. As for today's match, Al Ahly, led by Marcel Koller, relied more on direct play," the former Platinum Stars boss said, as per Kooora.

"If you ask me in my opinion which of them is better, it will be the way he played today."

Gamondi, who coached 48 matches in the PSL between 2007 and 2009, also reflected on the encounter and how he is now looking forward to the next round.

"I am sad about the loss, and I think it was a good match, and it was very equal," he added.

"We played well and had three or four chances to score. Now we are thinking about the next round.

"I congratulate Al Ahly for the victory, and also for my players for qualifying. Al Ahly took advantage of the expertise of its players, and the Red Team's goal was easy to avoid.

"Becoming runner-up makes you play the second match away from home, and this increases the difficulty in the next round, but I have great confidence in my team."
