Toure only scored three goals for City in 2016, but was still nominated by BBC's panel alongside Riyad Mahrez, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Ayew and Sadio Mane.
He has won the award twice already and is among the five nominees for a record-breaking eighth time – Toure is the only player, who has ever been present on the shortlist.
He was now asked about his African football idol, and selected three legends of the continent, while saying there were many others.
"Nwankwo Kanu, Jay Jay Okocha, Abedi Pele," he told BBC.
"I have so many, that were so good."
The retired Ivory Coast captain, who lifted the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with his country, also revealed his one football superstition.
"I have always been doing the same thing, left shoe before right shoe as a superstition," he added.
