Wydad 'Begin' Working On Mailula & Lorch Deals

Wydad Athletic Club are reportedly working on deals that will keep Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula at the club at least until the end of the FIFA Club World Cup.

When Rulani Mokwena arrived at the home of the record Moroccan champions, he essentially had to assemble a new squad, and one of the first players he signed upon his arrival was Mailula.

While the former Mamelodi Sundowns star took some time to adapt to his new surroundings, he has since proven to be an integral player for the record Moroccan champions. Over the last 18 matchdays of the Botola Pro Inwi, the Bafana Bafana attacker has scored four goals and provided eight assists in the top division, according to Transfermarkt.

Another player Mokwena brought in during the season was Lorch. While the Bloemfontein native’s numbers may not be as impressive as his compatriot’s — having scored only two goals in 11 league appearances — his performances have quickly endeared him to the fans of the Red Castle, recently winning the club’s Player of the Month award for March.

Although the South African tactician is no longer part of the club, new Wydad boss Mohamed Amine Benhachem sees the value in the aforementioned stars. According to Al Jarida24, the three-time African champions are in active discussions with Toronto FC and Mamelodi Sundowns to extend the loan deals of both players so they can participate in the Club World Cup.

The same report claims that Benhachem wants to maintain as much continuity as possible heading into the global spectacle, believing the retention of Mailula and Lorch to be crucial in delivering strong performances.
