The 2025/26 football season will start in August, and teams are preparing their squads to be match-ready for the new campaign.

African football continues to grow on the global stage, and the performances from Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns, Esperance and Wydad AC at the FIFA Club World Cup showcased Africa's talent and ability to compete with other leagues.

While Africa does not have the same resources to compete with other global leagues, some leagues stand out above the rest.

Just three African leagues cross the €100 million (R2 billion) valuation, but unfortunately still stand behind several leagues in Europe, Asia and the Americas, according to Transfermarkt. Each league's value is determined by the cumulative squad value of each team in the league.

Transfermarkt claim that South Africa's Betway Premiership is the only league in the top 5 that is not based in North Africa, securing the continent's second most valuable league spot, with the 'Big 3' leading the way as South Africa's most valuable teams.

Rulani Mokwena's MC Alger leads the way in Algeria with a value of €12,9 million (R266 million), while Josef Zinnbauer's JS Kabylie and Sead Ramovic's CR Belouizdad also feature in the league's top 3 most valuable sides.
