Prior to Hugo Broos taking the reins of the South African national team, Herve Renard was one of the tacticians who was rumoured to be of interest to the nation's football association.

The South African Football Association ultimately decided to go the direction of the Belgian tactician as the Frenchman continued his duties as boss of the Saudi Arabia national team at the time.

Fast-forward three years later, and the multiple-time AFCON winner is on the radar of yet another continental powerhouse, with Nigeria believed to be interested in making him their new head coach.

The Aix-les-Bains native recently left his position as head coach of the French women's national team after their 2024 Olympic Games quarter-final exit to Brazil, and it looks as though the Super Eagles could land his services.

According to OgaNlaMedia, as per Daily Post Nigeria, while they may be keen on recruiting the travelled tactician, his salary request of $125 000 (R2.2 million) a month is proving a stumbling block for the Nigeria Football Federation.

Another candidate for the vacant position is believed to be former Gambia head coach Tom Saintfiet, but the same report states that his monthly salary of $100 000 (R1.8 million) will likely also prove problematic for the Nigerian chiefs.
