World Cup
Group G
Full Time: Tunisia 1-2 England
Date: 18 June 2018
Venue: Volgograd Arena
An injury-time goal from Harry Kane snatched victory at the death for England, who beat Tunisia 2-1 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Group G match at the Volgograd Arena on Monday night.
It was a quick start for England when Dele Alli broke into the box in the third minute and squared for Jesse Lingard, but his effort from six yards was superbly saved by the Tunisian keeper.
The Three Lions opened the scoring seven minutes later when John Stones' original header at a corner-kick was saved into the path of Kane, who tapped home from close range, 1-0.
Tunisia suffered a further setback in the 16th minute when goalkeeper Mouez Hassan had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Farouk Ben Mustapha.
Lingard should have doubled England's lead in the 25th minute when he met a left-sided cross from Ashley Young at the back post, but he scuffed his volley inches wide.
Tunisia mounted a bit of a comeback after that and were awarded a penalty in the 33rd minute when Kyle Walker brought Fakhreddine Ben Youssef down inside the box.
Ferjani Sassi stepped up for the African team and converted from the penalty spot to level matters, 1-1.
England nearly re-took the lead a minute before the break when Lingard broke through on goal and managed to beat the keeper, but he saw his effort come off the post.
The half ended all-square.
England controlled all the possession at the start of the second half, but for all their dominance they couldn't break down a resilient Tunisia defence.
The first decent effort on goal in the second stanza only came in the 69th minute when Kieran Tripper fired a free-kick from 30 yards out inches wide of the Tunisian goal.
Ten minutes later, it was the turn of Young to try his luck from a free-kick, but much like his England compatriot, he curled his effort just over the target.
England left it, late with Kane snatching the winner in the 91st minute after heading home from close range following a flick-on from Harry Maguire at a corner-kick, 2-1.
Here is how they lined up.
