On Monday evening, CAF revealed its Team of the Tournament following the final in Yaounde on Sunday, a match Senegal won on penalties despite a strong defensive effort from Egypt over 120 minutes at the Paul Biya Stadium.
There was controversy from the get-go, as it was Chelsea and Senegal's Edouard Mendy selected in goal ahead of Egypt's Mohamed Abou Gabal, better known as "Gabaski", who did not even qualify for the bench.
Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco fullback Achraf Hakimi was named in the side following his incredible efforts in Cameroon, which included two consecutive free-kick goals scored in the knockout rounds of the tournament.

Bayer Leverkusen and Burkina Faso centre-back Edmond Tapsoba, 23, won a place in the XI, as did Arsenal and Egypt's Mohamed Elneny and Leicester City and Senegal's Nampalys Mendy.
Unsurprisingly, Player of the Tournament Sadio Mane features in the attack of the Team of the Tournament for his heroics for the Lions of Teranga as he contributed to five goals in seven games, while it was his penalty that decided the final in the shootout.
His Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah was chosen on the opposite side, with the tournament's top goalscorer Vincent Aboubakar, who struck eight times, being preferred to Pirates and Malawi's Gabadinho Mhango as the central striker.
