Bongani Zungu is one of the latest high-profile names to have been talked about in the transfer rumour mill. In a relatively short space of time, he has established himself as one of the best players in the country, hence the interest from abroad as well.
Many fans feel that, at the moment, Downs cannot afford to sell "Ben 10", but today I take a look at a few reasons why they should off-load the player.
Ample Back-Up
From a technical point of view, Downs have enough strength in depth to replace Zungu. Players such as Teko Modise, Surprise Moriri and Themba Zwane can all play in the centre of midfield. Let's not forget, too, that if coach Pitso Mosimane needs to find a suitable replacement, he will have the full backing of Patrice Motsepe in this regard.
He Will Affect The Wage Bill If He Stays
His contract will come to an end this season and should he pen a new deal, it would most likely mean he'll be on a much-improved deal. Should he leave, Sundowns will save huge amounts of money, and the club is already in the process of trimming down their wage bill.
Zungu's Mind Is Elsewhere
His heart could be firmly set on a move abroad as it has been reported that he is holding out for such a switch. If he wanted to stay, he would have committed to the club long in advance, but with negotiations dragging towards the end of his deal, this could suggest his mind is elsewhere already.
Downs Could Slow Down His Progress
At the rate he is going, it's only natural to think he will soon outgrow the PSL. If it's Zungu's wish to progress abroad, then Sundowns will have no choice but to let go of one of their most prized possessions. If Downs decide to block such a move, however, it could have a detrimental effect on his progress as a player.
What do you say – should Downs sell Zungu?
