After the new Laduma Connect platform for Soccer Laduma readers was launched, the Fan Park crew spoke to former PSL star Alfred Phiri, who played for Jomo Cosmos, Ajax Cape Town, Moroka Swallows and SuperSport United.
The retired midfielder also spent a big part of his career in Turkey and was part of the South African squad that took part in the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
What are you up to these days?
I'm running a business that's a buy-and-braai, a chesanyama, and I also founded the World Cup in Alex (Maimane Alfred Phiri Games), which will be running from May until July.
How difficult is the transition from professional football to retirement?
It's difficult at first, but I'm keeping myself in good health now. And I've been surviving. I managed to put some money aside and I can carry on living.
How do you think Laduma Connect would have been able to help you after retirement?
It's a good thing and I think people, as well as players, can benefit from it. It's going to do many positive things, I think. It can definitely help people.

Do you remember Phiri? Are you glad to hear from him again?
