In 2006, FC Barcelona famously partook in a friendly match against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versveld Stadium. Vuyo Mere, who played for Downs at the time, recently recalled his memories of the tie. Did you see it?
Fans in South Africa were treated to the special encounter in 2006, when the likes of Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and Victor Valdes made their way to Mzansi as part of a full-strength Barca outfit.
Downs boasted a strong squad themselves, with ex-Brazilians coach Gordon Igesund sending out the likes of Surprise Moriri, Lerato Chabangu and Esrom Nyandoro.
That said, Mere recently took to Instagram to put up a Throwback Thursday post of a gallery of images from the unforgettable match in which he shone in for Sundowns.

Downs took on Barcelona yet again in 2018, in what was a memorable friendly encounter as the Spanish side thrashed the Tshwane boys 3-1.
That game was also remembered for Lionel Messi's appearance from the bench after fans eagerly waited for the Argentine's presence on the pitch.
