Percy Tau is one of the most promising players in Mzansi right now, and while the footballing future looks bright for the Mamelodi Sundowns man, he also has a matric to fall back on. Do you know why he decided to stay in school?
The 22-year-old recently signed a sponsorship agreement with PUMA, and in an interview with them, he was asked why he opted to continue with his studies even though his career was already set.
"Well, my parents always gave me the encouragement to better my education. Studying is very important as it allows footballers to have a back-up plan when they retire or when the football thing does not work out," he answered.
On top of that, he is currently studying for a degree too, and he has left a message for young aspiring players.
"I would encourage the players to study as we have a lot of time after training. Yes, I believe I am well on my way to finishing my degree," he added.
With eight goals and nine assists so far this season, head coach Pitso Mosimane has even praised him for showing "so much bravery".
"What is the source of my strength? I believe in my abilities first and foremost. The tech team has also done a great job in giving me confidence and liberating me to enjoy my game," Tau concluded
Do you think more players should take school and their studies more seriously?
