Euro Giants Star 'Snubs' Four-Time AFCON Winners

An Inter Milan said no to representing an African giant.

A star at one of Europe's biggest clubs has turned down the opportunity to represent a four-time Africa Cup of Nations-winning nation in favour of a European side.

After a slow start to life with Inter Milan last season, centre-back Yann Bisseck appears to have become a more prominent figure for I Nerazzurri this campaign, starting eight of the 13 matches he has played for Simone Inzaghi in 2024/25.

His performances for the Italian champions earned him a preliminary call-up to the Cameroonian national team in September. However, according to Afrik Foot, the 24-year-old requested more time to decide whether he wanted to represent the Indomitable Lions.

Ultimately, it wasn't to be, and now, following the Koln native's recent statements, it is clear why he was hesitant to make the international switch to the West African powerhouse.

Quizzed on whether he would prefer to play for Cameroon or his native Germany, he told Bild: "I haven't decided anything yet, but my clear priority is the German team.

"I went through all the youth teams there. I also told the national coach, when I heard 'Hello, Julian Nagelsmann here on the phone'. I felt incredible emotions.

"The national coach knows my name! That's a huge thing, I'm very happy about it. I think it's very cool that the national coach is contacting me personally.

"I appreciate that beyond measure, it's a great sign of respect," he added.
