Makhanya Delighted With 'Cocomelon' Contribution

Orlando Pirates' DStv Diski Challenge coach Joseph Makhanya says it fills him with extreme pride to have contributed to 'Cocomelon' football displayed by DDC graduates Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota.

Makhanya, who is no stranger to making an impact for the Pirated first team at a young age, has played his hand in the development of the two youngsters making waves in the Bucs first team.

Both Mofokeng and Nkota worked with Makhanya in the Pirates DDC side before making the step up to coach Jose Riveiro's side.

'Duku-Duku' as Makhanya is known, shared his delight with the progress the young duo are making.

"It really appeases me because I'm a product of the development as well. I went through the ranks at Orlando Pirates and it makes me proud to see them graduate because the biggest take-away is that they do get to the level whereby they showcase their talent at the highest level of our football," he told journalists at the Carling Knockout Media event.

"It came with a bit of showing off, them being called 'Cocomelon'; which means that the cartoons (kids) are now getting the centre stage, which is nice as well.

"Kudos to the bravery of the coaches, especially at that level, because the integration has to be good as well. Because by trying to make them, we can also break them, so it's important that they get to that level and still perform the way we know they can. If you look at how Rele was integrated and how Nkota is integrated, it tells you that the coach also knows what he is doing because he doesn't only give them 15 minutes.

"That's why 'Rele' starts and finishes games, he has responsibility, which can be a lot on a young kid. We also need to be wary that it doesn't attract other bad things," he added.
