George Lebese has made the headlines for all the wrong reasons this week, where he was reportedly charged for malicious damage to property and physical assault on his girlfriend.
When news broke of these alleged charges, Kaizer Chiefs and Stuart Baxter opted to leave him out of the match day squad against Bloemfontein Celtic in hope of him turning himself over to the police.
According to reports in the media, Lebese went on the run for a few days before eventually being released for R1000 bail on Wednesday.
Following all the drama that has unfolded this week, many have been questioning what will happen to his future at Kaizer Chiefs should he be proven guilty of these charges.
The club is known for standing forth to its motto ‘Love and Peace’, and Chiefs founder, Kaizer Motaung, is very adamant in how the image of the club is portrayed.
It is with this that Lebese’s future will be placed under the microscope even more, and who knows how Motaung Senior will hand the situation if the court verdict does not go in favour of Lebese?
Lebese has been integral in the club’s unbeaten run this season, putting on display some of his best form ever for Chiefs.
This scenario is undoubtedly a massive blow for himself as well as Amakhosi, who will be questioned regardless of whether or not Lebese features versus Township Rollers or not.
In South Africa, the law is, ‘innocent until proven guilty’ and that is exactly how Lebese has to be handled for now.
The question remains though, will Motaung and Baxter hold stern to the image of the club from the offset? Or will they go by innocent until proven guilty and play him until such a time as the trial begins?
Khosi fans, what do you think should happen?
