As he approaches the final 12 months of his existing deal at Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk has reportedly made a major call on his future with the Reds.

The 33-year-old towering defender has been a mainstay in the Merseysiders' defence since joining the club from Southampton in January 2018, but he is now nearing the end of his current contract at the club.
Van Dijk will be a free agent come the end of the 2024/25 season as things stand, and this has only fuelled speculation that the Breda native could be set to call time on his career with the six-time European champions this off-season.
According to HITC, however, the Netherlands captain has no plans to leave Liverpool, and wants to sign a new contract with the club.
It is understood he has already informed the Reds' chiefs of his eagerness to prolong his stay at Anfield, and negotiations between the two parties are expected to get underway soon.
Van Dijk's compatriot Arne Slot is the man who has been tasked with leading the Premier League giants in the post-Jurgen Klopp era, and the same report claims the head coach has insisted he wants to keep his fellow countryman on board as he navigates his debut season on in the English top flight.

It is also believed that Van Dijk did not enter into discussions with any other club as he only wants to stay with Liverpool.
