With both centre-backs Tefu Mashamaite and Eric Mathoho’s contracts expiring at the end of the season, Kaizer Chiefs could fear losing their 'Twin Towers' as the club is yet to negotiate fresh deals for the defensive duo.
Fans will no doubt wonder as to who could replace Masha and Mathoho should they go, so today I will take a look at four names that may be the perfect replacements.
The Ajax Cape Town sensation is a player who understands and reads the game as good as the best defenders in the country. He may lack in height but his ability to perfectly time tackles is one of his best attributes.
Cardoso shocked many by earning himself a national call-up this year after being a consistent performer for Free State Stars this season. It was during the previous PSL campaign in which the defender was linked with a move to Chiefs and his recent Bafana cap may alert bigger clubs again.
As one of the most talked about defenders in the country, the 18-year-old Urban Warriors stars made the meteoric rise into the national team, as it is hard to believe the youngster was still part of the Ajax youth system a year ago. He has already shown that he can pair up with a player like Mathoho in defence for the national team and this may put him in good stead for a move to Chiefs.
The powerful centre-back is currently on loan at Maritzburg United from Mamelodi Sundowns as competition in that department is rife at Chloorkop. Going out on loan to Maritzburg did him well, as he may not have had many opportunities in the Sundowns first team. His ability to hold off strikers and defend well in one-on-one situations is one of his best qualities and it is also a requirement for an Amakhosi defender.
Do you think these are worth replacements?
