Once considered a darling by the Ghost faithful, Orlando Pirates winger Khethokwakhe Masuku now finds himself on the fringes at the club as game time seem to have eluded the winger a bit in recent times.
Make no mistake, Masuku is a great player on his day and has the flamboyance expected of a Bucs winger, but is his lack of game time an indication of him already being replaced?
That could well be the case because of other players in his position that are making it their very own. Sifiso Myeni may be the biggest culprit in this regard, as he continues to grow from strength-to-strength in a Pirates shirt on the right wing. Towards the end of former coach Vladimir Vermezovic’s tenure at Mayfair, Masuku did experience a good spell of game time, but rarely stood out in the team.
One would think that after the departure of Daine Klate and Tlou Segolela, Masuku would have a chance of cementing his place in the team - but that was not to be.
Let’s not forget that the rise of Thabo Rakhale could be another factor in Masuku’s stance with the team, with Jomo being the next big thing in Pirates colours. Both Masuku and Rakhale are similar in the sense that they are crowd pullers, but when it comes to the team looking for an impact player off the bench, Rakhale naturally provides the answer.
Everything about his situation suggests that he may not be that important to the team anymore because when the side was rotated, Masuku was rarely given the chance to play.
Do you think Masuku's time at Bucs could be coming to an end?
