Mamelodi Sundowns is a team spoilt for choice in terms of quality in depth. Their defensive department is no exception to this as they have some of the country's most talented defenders at their disposal.
Today the Fan Park crew will take a look the Downs defence and how they have fared in the first half of the season, with a rating out of 5.
Schut has been brilliant all season long for Downs, proving to be the club's most reliable option at the back, as he rarely makes mistakes. He could have had a perfect rating, however injury had kept him out of the team towards the end of 2014, with Sundowns missing their captain in defence.
Mr. Cool has had a rather average season thus far, however, that’s not to say he has been poor. Nthethe, when called upon, has been dependable and will no doubt be an important player for Downs in the second half of the season.
The former Maritzburg United defender has not set a foot wrong this season for Downs and has become a fan favourite at Loftus. Booysen has no doubt been a quality signing for Sundowns.
Rama, like Nthethe and Booysen, has been great this season at Chloorkop and has been a regular in the squad. He will no doubt remain the club's number one right back if he continues in this fashion.
Langerman started the season like a house on fire, putting in a string of wonderful performances for Downs. However, he soon slowed down and saw the bench more often towards the mid-season break.
Evans is currently battling to make it into the starting XI, after making a few substitute appearances here and there. There’s very little to rate the defender on since has was signed from Maritzburg United at the beginning of the current Absa Premiership season.
