With Gareth Bale taking lots of stick in the press recently, the Fan Park crew can’t help but compare the Welshman’s ‘selfish’ and ‘ball-hogging’ tendencies to that of a much younger Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo’s Early Playing Days
Cristiano Ronaldo burst on to the scene for Manchester United in 2004 and his potential was hard to deny. He had pace, skill and a knack for getting past his man with relative ease. However, he was undoubtedly greedy and often frustrated his United teammates. Instead of crossing, he’d go for goal and he’d hold onto the ball until the pass wasn’t on anymore. This we see in Bale nowadays.
The pacey winger has frustrated Real Madrid teammates lately with his selfishness in front of goal and it’s been highlighted by the press. As well as the media doing their bit, the players also make it obvious with their annoyed facial expressions. It’s exactly the same faces as we used to see from the likes of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes when CR7 never picked them out.
On more than one occasion in La Liga this season, Bale has chosen the harder option rather the easier one - squaring it for a teammate to tap it home.
What’s Next For Bale?
Well, we at the Fan Park believe that Bale needs to regain focus and remember that Real Madrid need to work in conjunction as a team to stay top of the league. With all the talent in the world, we expect the world’s most expensive player to perform at a much higher standard.
