Bafana Bafana Newbies – Reasons Behind Call-Up

Bafana Bafana coach is no stranger when it comes surprise inclusions into the national team and this time around he afforded six players the opportunity to represent Bafana for the very first time.

Here’s why these six new players have been given the chance of a lifetime to represent the country.

Daniel Cardoso

Cardoso said in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that he got goosebumps upon hearing he had been selected for the national team, and this was due to his consistent performances for El Lla Koto in recent times which has gotten him the nod.

Thapelo Morena

Morena came good only after being shifted about in different positions. After moving from midfield to the right wing position, Morena found that his speed and creativity became his greatest asset.

Lebohang Phiri

Mashaba was keen on trying out new blood in midfield and Phiri made the grade on Shakes’ list. Known to play with two holding midfielders, it’s clear that his quality as a holding midfielder for Brondby IF in Denmark caught the eye of the national team coach.

Cole Alexander

After signing for Polokwane City this season, Alexander blossomed in a passing savy Polokwane City outfit this season. His eye for creating goal scoring opportunities is one of the many reasons why Shakes selected the playmaker.

Siphelele Ntshangase

Although it may seem that the Black Leopards striker was selected only to gain him experience, we cannot doubt the sheer work ethic the 21-year-old possesses. With Shakes looking for ways to get the best out of his striking department, his call-up could also be viewed as an experiment by the technical team.

Thabo Mnyamane

Not many expected the University of Pretoria youngster to be included into the national team however his six goals in the in the Absa Premiership may have impressed Shakes in that regard.
