Top Five PSL Highlights In January

Top Five PSL Highlights In January

Goals galore, touch-line tussles and jaw-dropping transfers, the Absa Premiership came into 2018 all guns blazing. Can you list what some of the best moments are?

January felt like a long month for most people, but at least there was a lot of action on and off the football pitch to help get through the post-festive blues.

Take a look!

Benni McCathy and Muhsin Ertugral's War of Words

The iKapa Derby turned out to be more of a spectacle off the pitch than on it. With just one goal during the 90 minutes, it got heated on touch-line with some shoving from the coaches, that was followed up with some school-boy name calling that probably didn't do much to boost the professional reputations of each coach. However, when it comes to entertainment, it really can't get better than this and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The Return Of Khama Billiat

Injury and perhaps other narratives saw Billiat side-lined from a number of Mamelodi Sundowns games, however, upon his return he showcased once again just why so many are hailing him as the best player in the league. Two incredible free-kicks just moments apart from each other was how the Zimbabwean international chose to announce that he had re-entered the fray.

The Transfer window

The rumours were great, but the transfers that went through were even better! Tendai Ndoro's dramatic return to the PSL, Leonardo Castro signing for Kaizer Chiefs and Jeremy Brockie joining Sundowns… just to name a few. The summer market not only lived up to expectations, it exceeded them.

Goal Surge

At the beginning of the season, the league experienced a scoring drought that frustrated fans, with many games ending in goal-less stalemates. But January brought with it all the goals that seemed to be missing during that period, with quite a few games being high-scoring affairs.

Social media banter between clubs

To add even more excitement around the fixtures are the clubs' official Twitter accounts, which have been in top form lately. The likes of Ajax Cape Town, Polokwane City and Cape Town City entered into battles of trolling each other before and after games. The entertaining banter is well-received by supporters who also enjoy getting stuck in as well.

What other highlights can you think of from January?
