Today, Fan Park pays homage to an Mzansi great – Steve "Kalamazoo" Mokone, who was the first black South African to play professional football in Europe.
Nicknamed "The Maserati", Mokone signed for English outfit Coventry City in 1955, where he made four appearances and managed to bag one goal in the process.
He later went on to play for Heracles in the Tweede Divisie in the Netherlands, becoming one of the club's legends by earning himself a league medal.
By 1959, he was rated as one of the best footballers in Europe, and was compared to the all-time greats of that era.
His excellent form earned him a move to Barcelona; however, he failed to feature due to their foreigner quota being filled. This resulted in him not playing a single game for the Spanish giants, and so he made a loan move to French side Marseille.
The trickster later played in Italy, before finishing his career in Canada.
Mokone sadly passed away last year and, today, we celebrate the life of this South African legend.
Which other current South African players do you think could make as big an impact in Europe as Mokone did?
