The story
In a rather surprising move, South African music producer and manager Nhlamulo 'Nota' Baloyi designed two Bafana Bafana concept jerseys, taking to Twitter/X to show off his work.
Nota has endured a number of run-ins with the law over the last two years. Last year, he served nearly 20 days of a 60-day sentence imposed by the Johannesburg High Court in March 2023, relating to a defamation case brought against him by rapper K.O (real name Ntokozo Mdluli) over unfounded allegations posted on social media regarding late rapper AKA's passing.
Nota was nabbed during his court appearance, regarding a sexual assault case in early November. He faces accusation of rape, filed by actress Itumeleng Bokaba.
Nota's first Bafana concept jersey sees him use a white base, featuring faint grey stripes and an outline of the South African map.
The Mzansi SA music industry figure also uses traditional patterns on the colour and cuffs, with the shirt number and name displayed in green.
The SAFA logo and Protea badge are displayed in their usual colours and instead of using Bafana's current technical sponsor, Le Coq Sportif, Nota opts for Drip Sportif.
Drip's founder, Lekau Sehoana was left pleased with Nota's work and reposted it on his Twitter/X, tagging the South African Football Associations' account to spark a potential collaboration.
After entering the football sphere with Moroka Swallows last season, Sehoana knows a thing or two about designing kits and apparel for a professional team.
Despite closing its stores in October 2024, following a September ruling by the High Court in Johannesburg ordering the company to be liquidated due to unpaid fees to an advertising agency, Sehoana's Drip is back in the fashion game and are set to drop new sneaker designs over the next month.
