Even over the age of 30, some footballers are able to break transfer records! Today, I take a look at six of the most expensive transfers of players over the age of 30.
Jeremy Mathieu - €20m
The Frenchman turned out to be quite the investment for Barcelona. Having arrived from Valencia for a figure of €20m, Mathieu enjoyed a stellar season where he took home the treble! He certainly paid for his own transfer.
Claude Makelele - €20m
Considered as one of Chelsea's first big buys in the Abramovich era, Makelele arrived from Real Madrid for the same fee that Mathieu joined Barcelona for. Similarly, he also managed to enjoy success and walked away with six honours in the blue kit.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic - €21m
The towering Swede formed part of a two-player swoop by Paris Saint-Germain from Milan, arriving alongside teammate Thiago Silva. At the age of 30, he cost the Parisians a total of €21m. Not that they minded, as he brought in massive revenue by just being Ibra!
Diego Milito - €25m
Milito made the move to Inter from Genoa back in 2009, with the Nerazzurri forking out €25m for the striker. Again, it was money well spent, as he helped Jose Mourinho's team secure their first ever treble.
Samuel Eto'o - €30m
While Milito arrived at Inter, Samuel Eto'o was leaving. After having helped the Nerazzurri secure the treble, the Cameroon striker opted to receive a bigger cheque when he agreed a transfer to Russian side Anzhi for a fee of €30m.
Gabriel Batistuta - €32.5m
The oldest transfer out of all these names, and it still remains a record. After failing to win silverware with Fiorentina, the Argentine opted to swap life in Tuscany for a new adventure with Roma back in 2000 - for a fee of €32.5m.
Which player over 30 will break Batistuta's record?
