The story

Masandawana's first team players and club staff visited Joyous House of Safety in the small town of KwaMhlanga, in Mpumalanga to express their support for the cause and bring joy to the children there.

Downs handed over a R70 000 cheque in the spirit of yesterday's International Day of Charity, 5 September, celebrated on that date in order to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Nobel Peace Prize-winner, Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

The Tshwane giants also presented Joyous House of Safety with the Champions Charity Cup, as a token of recognition for all of their hard work for the community.

"I think there should be more noise about it [Joyous House of Safety], I don't think there's enough noise surrounding it. Not everyone gets the opportunity or the recognition and I think, on behalf of Mamelodi Sundowns, we are obviously taking that opportunity to show a token of appreciation to the work that's been done and the investment into the kids," says new Sundowns defender Kegan Johannes, in a video of their visit to the children's home, shared by the club's media team.

"We cater for vulnerable children, who are abandoned, neglected, and abused. Currently, we are housing 15 kids in a house enough for 10. Space is limited. We are squashed," says the Joyous House of Safety representative, Esther Mahlangu.

Watch below, with assistant coach Steve Komphela sharing a poignant reflection on the club's visit to the children's home in KwaMhlanga:
