Now his son, Joao Mendes, seems to be picking up where he left off. Mendes signed his first professional contract with Brazilian club Cruzeiro.
The 14-year-old has now been snapped up by sportswear giant Nike. The same brand that his father represented with distinction for all these years.
The Brazilian legend took to Instagram to share the news.
