Tesla boss Elon Musk, jokingly tweeted that he was purchasing Manchester United!

What's the story? 

Pretoria-born Tech billionaire Elon Musk teased Man United fans after posting a tweet claiming to be purchasing the 20-time English champions. 

In a short thread, that started off with Musk tweeting about US politics, he unexpectedly stated that he's buying the Glazer-owned club.

"Also, I'm buying Manchester United ur welcome," tweeted Musk, the comment has already received over half a million likes and counting. 

After being asked by the Tesla Silicon Valley Owners' Twitter page, Musk backtracked and pointed out that it was a joke. 

"No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I'm not buying any sports teams," he tweeted. 

He then left a glimmer of hope for United fans who a desperate to see a change in ownership. Musk revealed that United is his boyhood club: 

"Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid," he added.

Musk is currently in a legal battle with Twitter after a failed purchase of the app, and investing in a high-profile sports team is definitely unlikely... although we can never underestimate him.
