Debate: Africa's Best Ever Striker? George Weah

Debate: Africa's Best Ever Striker? George Weah

The Fan Park Crew as a whole have been debating this morning over which African striker gave the most to European football in their career and I strongly believe there is only one real candidate.

The man I am backing in this debate is Liberian legend George Weah. The former AC Milan striker has always been regarded as one the Africa's greatest ever players.

Weah spent 14 years of his footballing career playing for European clubs such as AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

The Liberian may have not scored the same amount of goals as Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o, but has left his mark in a way that the other two haven't.

Many might not know how much Weah has won in his career, but he has got a remarkable trophy cabinet. He has won two Serie A titles, a Ligue 1 title, numerous African awards and even the FA Cup.

The 48-year-old was named the FIFA World Player of the Year, as well as European Player of the Year back in 1995 - and came second a year later to Brazilian legend Ronaldo for the World Player of the Year. To this day, Weah is the only African to ever win the prestigious award and in fact the only African to also ever be nominated for the award two times in a row.

Weah's awards didn't end there, as the Liberian won the FIFA Fair Play Award and at the turn of the 20th Century was named African Player of the Century by FIFA.

Football a few years back is certainly not what it is today, but the legacy of George Weah is something that cannot be matched at the moment by Africa's current stars.

Yes we know he hasn't matched some of the other African's in the goals department, or maybe even the trophy department, but he has won the biggest prize of them - all which others can only dream about!

Which African striker do you think gave the most to European Football?
