Sundowns Set For Striker Reinforcement?

Sundowns Set For Striker Reinforcement?

Mamelodi Sundowns are looking at bolstering their striking force and are believed to be assessing former Bafana Bafana striker, Lebo Mothiba, according to reports.

Sources close to Chloorkop have informed the Siya crew that despite having Peter Shalulile, Iqraam Rayners, Ribeiro Costa, and Arthur Sales in their forward ranks, Sundowns believe they still need at least one more out-and-out striker to bolster their attack.

Former Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba is understood to be one of the players under consideration.

Mothiba has been training with Sundowns, and will be assessed until the end of this week before making a final decision.

"There are many reasons why the club wants to sign another striker. First and foremost is that the interest in Peter Shalulile is growing and the club may lose him and they don't want to be caught off guard in that regard. Then there is the issue of lack of goals this season with Iqraam Rayners being the main one scoring and also Ribeiro Costa here and there so they want to take pressure off these players by signing another striker who could help in scoring goals and help the team win even if Shalulile is still at the team," the source told Soccer Laduma.

The club's recruiters and technical team are understood to have identified several potential candidates to strengthen their attack.

"For now, it's just a matter of who that striker will be, if not Lebo Mothiba. Yes, there are other names already and it will all just depend on what the parties involved in recruiting and signing players agree on. But they are determined to sign a striker at least this January transfer window period. But for now they are having a look at Lebo Mothiba until the end of this week then they will make their final decision," the source added.

Apart from Sundowns, the former Bafana striker also had trials with Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca and has also been on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs.

The Siya crew reached out to Sundowns for comment, but no response was received at the time of publishing.
