Kopo Spotlights Kwayiba's Potential Amid Bafana Call-Up

The story

Speaking at a press conference after his side fell to AmaZulu FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday, coach Kwanele Kopo shared his views on Sinoxolo Kwayiba's Bafana selection.

The 24-year-old midfielder missed Chippa United's 2-0 defeat in Durban due to a cut eye that resulted in the closure of his eye due to the swelling, with the player also suffering from headaches according to coach Kopo.

Kwayiba's absence in Tuesday's league game may prove costly in his bid to earn a place in the final 23-man squad that will see Bafana Bafana travel away to Uganda and host South Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

"I think for Chippa United and for Kwayiba, we are excited about his selection. At the same time, he has a long way to go... I think what Hugo [Broos] is showing, is that there's potential.

"If he can be consistent and improve, there's an opportunity for him to go to bigger places," said coach Kopo, who highlighted that there's room for improvement with Kwayiba.

"He did well last season, but this season we don't feel like he started the campaign off on fire. We are happy for him, we'll keep pushing him.

"It's maybe going to be difficult now because he hasn't played the last game before the break but we appreciate that he's in that pool of players, we're excited for him, we're excited for Chippa United as a club," noted Kopo.
