Gerrard Urges Salah To Sign Liverpool Extension

Steven Gerrard has made his feelings known about Mohamed Salah's possible departure.

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has made a contract plea to Mohamed Salah, whose current deal expires at the end of the season.

As things stand, the Egyptian will not be a Reds player next season. Salah's existing deal expires once the 2024/25 season concludes, and should he decide against extending it, it will put a period on an iconic eight years at Anfield.

The two-time CAF Men's Player of the Year has attracted a lot of admirers for his time with the Merseysiders, and one of them is former club captain Gerrard, with the Englishman having claimed that he has been in awe of Salah's consistency since he signed for his boyhood club.

"I am not surprised [by Salah's longevity] because I think he is obsessed with the game and I think you can see the body shape, the routines you can see, I obviously follow his social media and I always talk to people [about him]," Gerrard told The Redmen TV.

"I always pick John's [Achterberg, former Liverpool goalkeeper coach] brain on a daily basis and he says [Salah] was really obsessed to be the best. He wants to break records and he wants to be remembered as the best, so I am not surprised in terms of how he approaches his profession."

With the 32-year-old seemingly nearing an exit from the six-time European champions, he has been linked with a lucrative move to the league where Gerrard is currently coaching, the Saudi Pro League.

The former midfielder has, however, expressed his desire to see Salah continuing to play at the highest level for Arne Slot's Reds.

"I think he is going to be one of these players that we will all appreciate even more when the day eventually comes that he moves on," Gerrard added.

"I still think we'll get a couple of years out of Mo Salah, he will deliver for many more years because of his shape, his professionalism, so I hope he stays. I hope we get more out of him and I am not surprised because the ones who are obsessed with the profession [succeed]."
