The story

Mamelodi Sundowns crashed out of the MTN8 this weekend after suffering a 1-0 loss (2-0 aggregate) to Stellenbosch FC in the second leg of their semi-final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.

Lehlohonolo Mojela's close-range finish was enough to see Stellies through to the final to face Orlando Pirates, with Steve Barker's men inflicting a fourth defeat in five competitive matches for the Brazilians.

Fans on social media were in a relentless mood after Sundowns' loss, with many Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates supporters rejoicing in Masandawana's pain.

Downs head coach, Manqoba Mngqithi bared the brunt of the online trolling — resulting in him becoming a trending topic on Twitter/X, as well as Rulani Mokwena.

A number of fans online were quick to criticise Masandawana's hierarchy for letting Rulani go to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club after the full-time whistle, casting doubt over Mngqithi's abilities to steer the Sundowns ship to the right direction.
