Numbers Reveal Why Chiefs Need A Striker

Numbers Reveal Why Chiefs Need A Striker

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to still be in the market for a striker and the Siya crew looked at numbers which reveal why it will be important for the Soweto giants to secure a deadly forward before the close of the transfer window.

Amakhosi have signed three defenders in Inacio Miguel, Bongani Sam and Rushwin Dortley, as well as goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari. They've done quite a lot to improve on their defence, but they probably need to look into bolstering the attack.

Gaston Sirino is the only attacking player they have signed so far, but they certainly need more upfront to improve on the numbers from the last few seasons.

Last season, Amakhosi scored 25 goals in 30 league matches, showing just how much they struggled in the final third. Striker Ashley Du Preez was the top scoring striker with six goals, while Christian Saile and Ranga Chivaviro finished the campaign with four goals a piece.

The season before last, in 2022/23, Chiefs scored 32 goals in 30 matches. They scored 20 goals less than league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, showing just how far behind in terms of battling for the title.

The last time Chiefs scored more than 40 goals in a season was in 2019/20. That season, they scored 48 goals as they missed out on the league title to Sundowns on the final day of the campaign.

While the job of scoring does not rest solely on strikers, it is important for the club to have individuals they can rely on upfront for goals regularly.

It's been a while since Amakhosi had a striker who rattled the back of the net regularly and they will no doubt be hoping to get one on board before the close of the transfer. How they must be dying to have strikers in the calibre of players such as Collins Mbesuma and Knowledge Musona, two individuals who were deadly in front of goal for Amakhosi.
