The story

Veteran forward, Emiliano Tade recently spoke about his time in the PSL with AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns, touching on his first experience with traditional medicine in South Africa.

The 36-year-old's time in South Africa came to an end in December 2019, making only 32 appearances and managing only nine goals during his stints at Usuthu and Downs.

In his podcast conversation with Michael Morton, Tade reflected on the fun times they had at AmaZulu, including some rituals they'd undertake with muthi.

"I absolutely love it. I love it! In Argentina, we do have a little bit of muthi, maybe not to that extent or level but we do have it," Tade told Morton on his podcast.

"In football in general, it's normal, maybe not to that extent. I remember being in the change room [at AmaZulu] and then we went to warm-up, and when we went back, there was so much smoke, I couldn't even breath.

"And our kit man was in charge of that, my eyes were itchy and my mouth got dried, I couldn't even breath with that smoke. I really enjoyed it though... I was actually really curious.

"[The kit man] would come to me before the game and would spread some water on me or put something in my boots or my playing shirt. I would know about it because he would ask me if I wanted to be participant and be part of it, which I really wanted! Maybe to a certain extent, but I tried a few more of those things and I loved it," shared Tade on his memories of using muthi at Usuthu.
