Earlier this year, the University of Johannesburg announced that they would be awarding the 2016 CAF Coach of the Year with an honorary doctorate, recognising his success within the world of football as a player and a coach.

The Kagiso native will be given this distinction later this week, and among the attendees the South African tactician wanted to be present is Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib.

While working under the Egyptian executive between 2020 and 2022, Mosimane won six titles, but while they seemingly share a special bond, the 69-year-old will be unable to make his way to Johannesburg, but did extend his congratulations to his former head coach.

"El Khatib congratulates Mosimane on his honorary doctorate," a statement from Al Ahly reads.
