While the Blues and the Red Devils may not currently be at their best given their respective positions on the Premier League table, the two sides still treated fans to an entertaining encounter on Thursday night.
Mauricio Pochettino's men first took a two-goal lead through Conor Gallagher and Palmer, before a Bruno Fernandes header sandwiched between two Alejandro Garnacho goals gave Erik ten Hag's side the advantage.
It seemed the Mancunians were destined to win the encounter, but in added time Palmer scored another two goals, including a penalty, to complete his hat-trick and give his side a dramatic late victory.
After the match, the recently capped England international struggled to put into words how his side were able to complete the miraculous comeback.
"I don't know [how Chelsea came back]," Palmer told TNT Sports.
"[We were] 2-0 up and like I said last week we had silly mistakes. When the eight minutes got added on it gave us a lift – madness. We need to try to win as many games as possible.
"To win like that, there is nothing better. We thought when we scored the second goal, the fans lifted us and I saw the gaffer say there were two minutes left and thankfully I scored.
