Result: England 0-1 Brazil

Date: 23 March 2024

Venue: Wembley Stadium

The Three Lions gave a debut to Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon while Ollie Watkins was named upfront in place of Harry Kane, who missed out through injury.

The game's first big chance fell to Brazil after 12 minutes when Vinicius Junior was slipped through on goal, before slottin past Jordan Pickford however the forward's goal-bound strike was kept out by Kyle Walker.

Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden saw a lot of the ball for the home side in the first half, but clear chances were hard to come by for the likes of Watkins and Gordon in the box.

While England dominated possession without creating much, Brazil went close once again on 33 minutes when Lucas Paqueta struck the upright with a first-time strike from 12-yards out.

The game was played at a lively tempo going into the second half, with Gordon denied by Bento in the opening ten minutes while Raphinha went close with an effort from distance at the other end.

Having already  made a few defensive changes, Southgate finally introduced Marcus Rashford after 70 minutes in place of Gordon while 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo replaced Conor Gallager for his debut.

However, it was a Brazil substitute who got the breakthrough when 17-year-old got his first goal for the national side on his third appearance by slotting into an empty net after Vinicius' initial effort was saved.
