The five-time Ballon d'Or winner turned 39 in February, but has shown no signs of losing his touch in front of goal.

In 2023, the Madeira native joined Al Nassr and ended the year off as the most prolific goalscorer in the world for both club and country as he bagged 54 goals.

Despite Ronaldo being his twilight years, the forward still harbours ambitions of adding silverware to his illustrious trophy cabinet.

At the end of the campaign, he will try to win a second UEFA European Championship with A Selecao in Germany, but his teammate Joao Cancelo does not think the national team can depend on the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man entirely to lead them to continental glory once again.

"He is an important player and spent 15 years competing with Messi for the Ballon d'Or, but the peak of a footballer's career is between the ages of 25 and 32," the Barcelona player told Portuguese network RTP

"He is an important player for us, but the national team does not depend entirely on him."

Portugal will go up against Sweden and Slovenia in international friendlies during this international break, with Ronaldo only set to feature against the latter.
