Percy Tau's Al Ahly were crowned Egyptian Cup champions after a late 2-0 win over arch-rivals Zamalek on Friday evening.

Egypt Cup Final

Result: Zamalek 0-2 Al Ahly

Date: 08 March 2024

Venue:  Al Awal Park at King Saud University

The Red Devils made four changes to the side that edged Young Africans in the CAF Champions League final group game, as Mohamed Hany, Karim Nedved, Kahraba and Emam Ashour were recalled while Tau was retained.

The cup final in Saudi Arabia was attended by legendary Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, who presented the Cup before the game, Italian legend Francesco Totti and Brazilian scoring icon Ronaldo.

Zamalek had an early chance to go ahead after Zizo curled a low shot towards the bottom corner but goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir made a stunning save.

The was not much separating the two sides after that and more spark was needed in the second stanza to bring the game to life.

The White Knights made an attacking change at half-time as Shikabala replaced Zizo and with the score still deadlocked on 73 minutes, Marcel Koller made a tactical and defensive change, as he brought on defender Omar Kamal in place of attacker Tau.

The change seemed to have paid off for Al Ahly as Ashour broke the deadlock with six minutes remaining.

Magdi Afsha sealed the win for Al Ahly after doubling their lead in stoppage time with a clinical shot and the Red Devils were crowned champions.
